Today was bee day!
Rob has been working evenings this week getting the enclosure at the bottom of the garden ready.
There was a little doubt about whether his bees would be ready today, but they were, so off we went! It was a gorgeous day for a drive in the countryside, and the kiddos enjoyed the observation hive at the farm. Seeing the bees get put into our super was fun, and we got to play with a drone bee (who have no sting) so K and L could see and identify the parts of a bee close up.
Now the bees will settle into their new surroundings for around two weeks. During this time they have a sugar solution to eat, in case they don't find enough local flowers quickly enough.
As they settle in, they will add to the hive, raising more bees, and Rob will begin to add to the hive, continuing to give them room to grow, and being making us some honey!
Bee updates will follow over the summer, I am sure!
