On Friday I took F and K to see the Royal Drummers of Burundi, with Mombassa Party. The drummers were amazing. *Amazing*
They walked onstage with their drums on their heads, and they were playing them!! (these were 20-40 kg drums) They had 10 drums alltogether, and 12 performers, so they were always rotating dancers and drummers, and at times had all 12 playing at once.
The performance was tight- every drummer matched every other drummer perfectly.
The girls seemed really into it, which was fun. I love that we are able to connect with drumming in so many different ways, and that K is getting a strong grounding in rythym in all the ways we include drumming into our homeschooling. My djembe is always out, and I can use it like a metronome for her violin practice!
