Today was the Mini Marathon!

Rob walked it and K and L plus our good homeschooling friends, joined the Finish Line team water station to hand out water! This is something I have had a lot of fun doing before..... basically we get up very early and set out and pour thousands of cups of water. Then we give the cups of water to the runners and walkers and cheer for them as we do!

It's hard to describe the energy of this kind of volunteering! All the runners and walkers giving their very best effort, and being so thankful to the volunteers who are handing out their water. Everyone has so much fun with it!

The kiddos were into it for a long time. They gave themselves breaks to spell their arms, and lasted for a looong time. Much longer than I thought they would! Especially since we were all up at 5 am and they hadn't slept in the car! Jamie and I were fueled by Starbucks, I have no idea what was fueling the kids! By the very end, when it was just the slower walkers and things had trickled off, they began to blow bubbles for the walkers instead of hand them water....... it was so fun and sweet!

I love the idea that I can encourage this kind of volunteering for our family. That the kids have so much fun, and really enjoy themselves helping others in a very tangible way..... it makes for a really memorable experience in community service.
