Voicing your opinion.
This morning K and I got up early and went down to Shelbyville court house to protest the prosecution of a local midwife. (Below is a link to some local reporting. There's plenty more, I decided to rein it in and keep it simple here.)
There really is no need for this prosecution to even be taking place, however it does shed light on the fact that Indiana is one of the states in the US that has no recognition for the cerfication that Jennifer has- Certified Professional Midwife. There is legislation currently being worked on (Bill 1237) that would change this, and make this whole prosecution a pointless waste of tax payer's money if that bill goes through.
K and I went, chanted and marched with our friends. She was a midwife assisted birth, and she knows it, so she has a curiosity about all this. (She also remembers Landon's birth.)
After seeing the rally this morning, I am eager to get to help where I can to get Bill 1237 passed.

This is what K and I got up to this morning. We went and had a practical lesson about standing up for things you believe in. K got to see herself on the noon news, camera panned past quickly!
What do we want? Drop the charges?
When do we want it? Now!

K on the huuuuuuuuuuge tire swing, on the huuuuuuuge tree at the farm. You can work it up to swing right out over the corn field. If I were Jenny I would be out on the swing all the time. : ) Too much fun!

A sunny winter day......
We had some fun math time this morning, using the current Girl Scout Cookie Sales as a basis. F came over and she and K worked on this together. I role-played a cast of characters who wanted to purchase cookies, but couldn't work out how much things cost, or even how to add up how many boxes I purchased. They had to give change, and write everything down. We made a large play front door for them to knock on, out of an IKEA wardrobe box!
This afternoon we went over to my friend Jenny's farm for her kiddos and mine to play together. The weather was warm and sunny, but very windy. It was a chance for running around outside- a nice break in the weather. Thanks to Jenny for leaving the eggs for us to help collect. And for letting me have a swing on the giant tire swing too!

Day of firsts......
Today L was back at preschool- first day back after the fire there. I was co-op-ing in the classroom, and was prepared for the chaos, but it went very smoothly! It was nice to be there with him on the first day back.
K was back on campus at Butler again today, for her first violin lesson with her new teacher. Our old teacher, Laura has gone to another musical job, but she left us in good hands! Our new teacher is also from Chile. She seems very sweet and K really liked her.
I had a meeting at church this evening, as I step up to the co-ordination of our church nursery and Jnr Church. It feels a little overwhelming, but I am committed now. : )
Later this evening Jimmy delivered my new wardrobe (IKEA!) for my bedroom! It's the last piece of furniture we need to truly feel settled into our new home. I realized this evening that the Cahills were here to help us move in on day one, and helped tie the last loose ends together with that last piece of furniture! I sure am blessed and thankful for friends. : )
Sleep is calling me....... no wait, that's the kiddos....... gotta go....

Tuesday
We began an new endeavour today- Alpha Art! The book club girl tribe has begun new art adventures together. We bought special stockmar crayons and sketch pads to begin a new class that has a story and art work to do for every letter of the alphabet. The story involves the letter somehow, and the illustration the girls do in their sketchpad invloves both the letter (which begins each illustration) and the story! They are learning about colour theory, composition and this is also reinforcing K's letter formation. (Oh and the stories are all pretty cool too!)
Thanks to Tia Justyn for including the rest of the girl tribe in her enthusiasm!
We got back into the swing of regular Girl Scout meetings again today, learning a little about safety in a try it badge. After the meeting K and F were desperate to sell some Girl Scout cookies, so despite the rain we walked along the business strip in Irvington selling cookies. : )

K is ready for the movie, she was thrilled to get to wear adult sized 3D glasses. They were considerably less smeary than the kid sized ones she swapped me for!

L is ready, with his glasses and a snack, to see the 3D IMAX movie about walking on the moon.....

Martin Luther King Day
We packed a lot into one day today! Today all the museums and attractions at White River State Park downtown were free with a canned good donation to Gleaners food bank- to celebrate Martin Luther King day.
We got downtown early and met our friends, at the State Museum. The kiddos worked at a table with colouring and poetry activities about Martin Luther King while we listened to drumming and poetry on a nearby stage they had set up. We got in to a showing at the IMAX theatre..... a 3D presentation called Magnificent Desolation: Walking on the Moon. This was the first 3D IMAX I or the kiddos had ever seen. It was way too much fun, I can't even describe it! I got a kick out of watching L waving his hands in front of his face, trying to touch the things that he thought he saw right in front of him!
We also wandered around the Museum for a bit, looked at some Indiana history, then all went back to Susans for lunch. After fueling up, we left the little guys with Susan while everyone else went to the Ellenberger Ice Rink to skate. It was so much fun!! I have such an appreciation of Jamie's kiddos and the way they approached skating for the first time, it was pure joy to watch them throw themselves into it- literally- but not stop smiling the whole time, no matter how many times they landed on the ice butt first! K is getting better and better at skating. She even tried skating backward today!
Oh, and we got to see the Zamboni in action! The ice was sooo smooth afterward, I have never skated on such fresh ice like that!
What a full and fun day. : )
