Getting the idea.......
Originally uploaded by annamaren.Today we went to our friend's farm to help them out a little.... they had a swarm of bees! The swarm was thinking of making their new home in a hole in a tree- right on the path to the door of the farm-house.
So Rob packed some bee gear in the car and we rode out to the farm to see if Rob could help. As it turns out, everything went very smoothly, and Rob got the queen into a spare brood box he had- and all the swarm followed her. It took all afternoon, but he was able to make the tree safe, and the bees were happy- they have a nice new home.
We called around a little, looking for a new home for these guys, but we may end up keeping this lot as a secondary hive. (the bees had no takers!) Right now they are on the roof of Rob's home office. A nice out of the way, but sunny spot!
I am so curious to see how these wild bees do, and how much honey they will make compared to the bees we bought! Ahhh, the homeschooling fun we can have, making comparisons! Bee math!
Violin too!

Blueprint music

Our friends Kate and Josh sing and play guitar/precussion. Also the venue is great, the kiddos can dance and move around, and not have to be seated for the entire show. (as evidenced on my flickr photos of the show!)
Bookclub

We are getting back into the swing of making bookclub a priority for the girls on Friday. With so much going on in all our families lately (new baby, water problems etc) we have not had bookclub in many weeks, and K has missed it!
It was so lovely to see the girls having fun together over a sweet book.

Originally uploaded by annamaren.Since it wasn't raining, Rob picked this afternoon, after work, to peek at the bees! When he cracked the hive, he found the girls hard at work, and ready for the next stage for the hive- the honey super!
So now, and for the next few months they will work on making honey for us to eat!
The kiddos enjoyed watching daddy work on the hive, we stayed at a respectable distance. He took these frames over to us to explain what was going on.
The 90th birthday party
Originally uploaded by annamaren.We celebrated family over the weekend, by driving to Pennsylvania to help party with Rob's mum's side of the family. Rob's grandpa is 90, and enjoyed a big party surrounded by his family.
I hope I get a big party for my 90th birthday.
Imagine, most of the folks in the room would not have been there at all, if it weren't for the life choices that Ernie made. Yet he had children, they had children, who then had children, and here we all are eating lunch together and singing happy 90th birthday!
Kinda makes me miss my papa! This time last year I was in Australia.
