self directed learning......
The thing about self directed learning is that your sweet seven year old girl may express an interest in juggling knives.
Um...
Um......
So I got a little kit that has scarves for learning to juggle and we have books from the library.
And seeing how hard juggling scarves is for her, I very glad that I know she is sensible enough that I don't have to lock up the knife block. (If it were L who had mentioned it, I know I would have had to lock up *every single* knife in the house.)

Sheesh.....

Baseball!

Baseball!
Originally uploaded by annamaren.

Baseball season has begun! We went to a game on Monday evening. It was chilly and so there were very few people in attendance.
We all had a good time, despite being very cold.
I have much to learn about baseball. Much like cricket, it's a slow game to watch, I had just as much fun watching L watch the game! He cheered when anyone hit anything or caught anything, no matter what team it was!

Lemonade!
Here is a photo of K and her friends selling lemonade today!
I wasn't feeling well, and am so thankful to have friends to farm out kiddos to on days like today! I slept and recovered. The mini's played and sold lemonade!
Here is a link to my friend's blog about the sweet afternoon...

We're home. A slight update...
Happy Easter! Our Easter was of the earthiest possible kind of holiness, both K and L have been sick. Ill. Feeling Poorly. Unwell. K started it. We thought we were over it, so took a chance on driving to PA only to celebrate Easter by sharing the germs that apparently had been harbouring with L.
Not only did I foget to bring the camera, we had snow for Easter weekend! (Last year it was hail.)

Previous to Easter and germs, we have been busy and I have been scattered and busy.
I took a trip to West Virginia with my friend Jamie. It was a great trip and wild to see the mountains with no leaves on the trees!
I firewalked, and learned more about facilitating that. (look out I'ton!)
I have also been sewing a little and reading a lot.
K has been reading about horses. She really wants a horse. (I should have gone with the cat idea of hers. Of course, I want a sheep, so who's talking here?) We've been reading Shakespeare, K has a thing for Shakespeare and I love reading it out loud, so we're just going with it. We have been learning about spring- flowers, parts of a flower, parts of a plant etc. Also K can't seem to let Egypt go. K still has a deep interest, and so we've included a little more Egyptology in our studies. That and the work on Media that we've begun. It started with an interest in Newspapers but is rapidly turning into some kind of comparitive media overview.
As Rob says, she is a sponge right now. It feels interestingly familiar to watch her suddenly be able to be curious about so much at once. I just hope that I can keep up with her.
L is doing well. (Despite his recent germs.) His imagination is so great..... he has these vast and vivid dramatic play scapes that he sets out and populates with characters from all kinds of genres, enacted out by all kinds of toys. He is such a big guy, but still such a little guy. He animates everything, he has imaginary friends, including a bird which lives in his pocket. (Named Little Bird)

OK, I am done for now.
What a wordy update.
Sorry no photos, I have forgotten my camera a lot in the last past 7 days.
Ah well. You will have to use your imagination too!
