discussing hike to Kile Oak

We decorated hiking sticks to go on our walk. L was ready to give me his hiking stick about a quarter of the way into the walk!
Teh Kile Oak - one of the oldest trees in the hood
Originally uploaded by justynrebecca.Tree camp continues.... today was a hike to the Kile Oak. It's a beautiful tree, but the grounds of the oak are completely covered in poison ivy.
So we stuck together like glue!
Mother Goose Rocks - Head & Shoulders, Knees & Toes by Mono with ME2This made me laugh soooo hard. My kiddos love U2, so they appreciated the humour in this too. Check out some of the other ones, the Dave Matthews send up is pretty funy too.....
LOL....
Jamie shows her crowd of admirers her Queen bee!
Originally uploaded by annamaren. Here is our neighbour Jamie, working her hive on Saturday. She had her in-law's over, and they were deeply curious. This was their first look inside a long hive, and they were hooked. Jason is working on a hive (or more) for them to host at their house.
It has been so much fun for me to see this love of bees shared so easily. Rob started it last year, he's wanted a hive for years. Then the kids and I got curious, and soon we were learning all we could about honey bees. Many friends peeked at our hives last summer and late in the summer we shared honey with as many people as we could who asked about it!
Fresh, raw unprocessed honey is such a treat, I think that plus seeing it up close made it seem accessible. This year, two other WellSpring families have hives, with another getting started in about two weeks now, and two more families thinking about it over the summer.
Now Jamie and Jason are getting people hooked in too..... it's so wonderful to see! It's very interesting to see how intrigued people can get, because I felt that way myself about a year ago!
Guess what? Rob is back in pottery! Thanks to Corey!
Originally uploaded by annamaren. Our friend Corey teaches Ceramics at Herron, and is a talented artist. He has been keeping a look out for the perfect wheel for a while, and finally found one for Rob!
Rob loves ceramics, and has had a dream of having a wheel exactly like this one for ages. It's a kick wheel, but it has an electric motor as well.
We owe Corey and family 10 pounds of honey for it, and will be happy to give that and more when the honey flow starts!
I am feeling pretty excited to begin re-learning about throwing clay on a wheel. And K has been sitting out here just spinning the wheel, staring at it, watching it spin. We all can't wait to give it a shot.
As you can see however, there is a little matter of cleaning in the garage a bit, and creating studio space for it. I ought to have cropped out the odd mess that we have going on in this photo.
(The thing on the left is a group facilitation toy, a caterpillar walk.)

The homeschool co-op that we are part of, is holding a week long camp, all about trees! Oh, we have so many activities, so much to do, it's really anyone's guess if we will manage to fit it all into a week!
Sunday afternoon was the camp kick off, and we began by doing a little roped tree climbing. This photo is from Justyn, it's me belaying my sweet two year old birthday buddy!
